Rocking on my parents’ porch
Pulling out my hair
I stumbled through a feeble pass
At something like a prayer

Then like a bolt from the blue, a chickadee flew
And landed on a dish full of rain
As if in response I took off my shoes
And cried there as the mourning dove sang
